3 Outdoor Exercises to Try This Summer

At Absopure, we’re all about empowering people to live a healthy and active lifestyle. As a Michigan-based company celebrating National Great Outdoors Month, we’re encouraging you to try these three fun outdoor exercises this summer.

Trail Running
Many of our friends in the running community have told us that trail running is a great way to shake up their regular running routine. As one of the fastest growing sports in the country, there’s something about trail running that makes a normal daily run rewarding and enjoyable.

Besides being able to get outside to enjoy the serenity of a scenic route, trail running is a great way to take your workout to the next level. The diverse terrain of a trail challenges your muscles to exercise in a completely different way, thus improving the overall effectiveness of your workout. In fact, according to Women’s Health Magazine, you can burn up to 7% more calories by taking your run off road. If you’re wondering where to take your next run, there are plenty of scenic trails in U.S. to get your stride on.

Cycling
If you’re not a fan of running, cycling may be another enjoyable exercise to try this summer. Whether you’re mountain biking on rocky trails or taking a long ride on a scenic stretch of roads, there are many health benefits of cycling.

Much like running, cycling is an exercise that can improve your cardiovascular fitness and reduce your risk of heart disease. However, unlike running, cycling is a low-impact and joint-friendly exercise that’s terrific for toning your calves, glutes and quads. Cycling can also improve your quality of sleep. According to a study done by Stanford University School of Medicine, 20-30 minutes of cycling outside can help people achieve deeper, more restful sleep.

Wakeboarding & Water Skiing
Looking a workout that doesn’t feel like work? With wakeboarding and water skiing, you’ll be too busy having fun to realize you’re actually working out your entire body. Water workouts like these can help you improve your lower body, upper body, core strength and improve your balance.

Outdoor exercises challenge your muscles to work differently, allow you to burn more calories and can help you reduce stress and feel more energized. When exercising outside this summer, it’s especially important to stay hydrated.

Remember to bring a water bottle with you and take small sips periodically throughout your workout. Now lace up those shoes, grab your water bottle and go enjoy the great outdoors.
