Why Water is Key for a Healthy Head of Hair

Are you experiencing dry, brittle hair? Or even hair thinning or dandruff? This could be due to lack of water intake.

Water is like the oil that runs the machine that is the human body. As water aids body functioning, it first feeds vital body parts such as organs and skin. Once the water regulates through the circulatory system it reaches hair follicles last. It is important to drink enough water to feed vital organs as well as other parts of the body such as hair follicles. Humans lose about three quarts of water a day, so remember to replenish water lost to keep your body functioning properly.

The reason you want enough water in your body to reach the hair follicle is because water is the key to a healthy head of hair and here’s why:

Like a plant, hair grows from the roots and everyone knows that plants require water to grow. Think of your hair the same way. Roots soak up water from the body to hydrate hair, which then boosts growth. If the body doesn’t have enough water to reach the scalp, your hair can become dry, brittle, and potentially stop growing. Some people experience hair problems and think they can change this with a vitamin intake. However, vitamins cannot properly activate without plenty of H20 in the body. Water also nurtures cells which can provide natural hair vitamins to the follicle.

If your body doesn’t have enough water, it will not properly maintain cell production which can hurt your health and your hair. Avoid dehydration by recognizing symptoms such as: dry mouth, headaches and dark urine. If you are experiencing these symptoms, you may want to up your water intake in order to help your body. Remember, it is important to stay hydrated to keep all cells functioning in your body, even your hair!
