The Importance of Water for a Healthy Heart

According to the CDC, one in every four American deaths can be attributed to heart disease. With February being American Heart Month—a cause dedicated to raising awareness about preventing heart disease—it’s important to remember one of the most important factors in keeping your heart healthy is water.

Hydrate Your Heart

Whether you spend most of your time outside or inside, warm or cool, your heart craves water to help it pump around 2,000 gallons of blood per day. When you drink more water than you lose, your hydrated heart can pump that blood more efficiently, allowing the muscles in your body to work at a higher level.

Beware of Dehydration

When you lose more fluids than you consume, your body becomes dehydrated, which puts a large strain on your heart. Subsequently, the amount of blood circulating through your body decreases, causing your heart to work harder and beat faster. If your heartrate gets too high, you might feel these palpitations, and eventually could lead to developing heart disease.  This is why it’s so important to practice hydration in your daily health regimen.

How Much Water is Enough?

The American Journal of Medical Epidemiology states that people who drink five or more glasses of water per day are at much lower risk of fatal coronary heart disease, compared to those who drank less than two glasses per day. For maximum effectiveness, the Institute of Medicine suggests men drink about 3.7 liters—or fifteen 8oz glasses—of water per day, and women drink around 2.7 liters—or eleven 8oz glasses—of water daily.

Keep Water Top of Mind

Sometimes, people misinterpret their body cues and mistake thirst for hunger. While it’s true that we get around 20 percent of our water from food, nothing can substitute pure H2O. It’s important to keep a bottle of Absopure water at your side to drink from throughout the day, especially while many of us are still working from home and don’t think about hydrating as often.

Consider Other Factors for a Healthy Heart

Many factors go into heart-healthy living. Along with drinking water and staying hydrated, other factors include: choosing heart-healthy foods, managing stress, engaging in regular physical activity, getting good quality sleep and having your blood pressure and cholesterol checked often.

Stay Proactive

One of the best ways to avoid heart disease is to be proactive rather than reactive. Communicate often and effectively with your healthcare provider so they can better understand the risks you face and determine the healthiest solutions for your body. You can also keep your heart consistently hydrated by keeping a 24pk of Absopure in stock at home, or by subscribing to home delivery from Absopure!

Remember to spread the word that February is American Heart Month!
