Can Drinking Water Improve Your Skin? Yes!

Water is certainly the crux to the fountain of youth. From promoting weight loss to preventing kidney stones, there are plenty of reasons to stay properly hydrated. One of our favorite reasons to stay hydrated? Healthier skin.

Have you noticed your skin is looking a bit dull? Maybe it’s a tad dry, or the texture feels thin and tight. Are your wrinkles more prominent, and do unwanted blemishes keep popping up? Hydrate your skin from the inside out by drinking more water.

Maintaining proper hydration promotes circulation at the skin’s base, promoting rapid skin repair. Without proper hydration, not only will you feel thirsty, your skin will also suffer the repercussions. If an adequate amount of water isn’t ingested, your skin will become dry, dull and flat, causing wrinkles, pores and other imperfections to become more prominent.

Instead of wasting money on expensive creams, balms and lotions, fill up your glass of water. Drinking 9.5 cups of water per day for a month can alter the skin’s density and thickness, as found in a study from the International Journal of Cosmetic Science.

The University Missouri-Columbia found that drinking water increased blood flow to the skin. Increased blood flow is often linked to younger, brighter and healthier appearing skin. Think about how your good your skin looks during the spring and summer months. Imagine looking that way all the time by maintaining hydrated skin all year round.

We often overlook the connection between drinking water and acne. Skin is 64% water. While it’s natural for skin to have a thin layer of oil on the surface, dehydration can trigger oil glands to produce more oil. Overly oily skin is an invitation for unwanted blemishes.

If you suffer from bad acne, consider reaching for another glass of water. Staying properly hydrated is a great way to refresh your body by flushing out unwanted toxins. Fewer toxins in the body can encourage clearer skin. Attempt to achieve healthier skin by drinking more water to heal acne from the inside out.
