Water Detox: How to Refresh Your Body The Healthy Way

Think of detoxing as spring cleaning for your body. Remove the bad stuff and enhance the good stuff.

Detoxing is a trend that has caught on in recent years. But what does it really mean, and how can drinking water help in your efforts to create a healthier you? We’ll get to those questions, but first, a history lesson.

Detoxing dates back several thousand years to the Roman, Greek and Native American cultures. Their methods may have varied, but the goal was the same: to purge toxins and bad things from their body. Overall health was, and still is, the goal.

Today, you can’t walk into a grocery store or pharmacy without seeing dozens of detox products  guaranteeing to rid your body of unwanted elements. However, one of the best (and most healthy) detoxes is right at your fingertips—the water detox.

The Water Detox

Water is a main element of life and essential for good health. Drinking water daily is one of the easiest ways to maintain a healthy system and avoid dehydration and fatigue. It also has a host of other positive health benefits.

If you want to try a water detox, the first thing you need to do is develop a plan. It won’t be easy, but the benefits are quickly realized if you do a water detox correctly. The goal is to increase your fluid intake for a short period of time to flush out toxins from your system and reduce bloating. Here are a few pointers:

Keep it short: A few days is best. You don’t want to deprive your body of vital nutrients. Overdoing it may lead to overeating once the detox is done and any benefits may be erased.

Drink plenty of cool, filtered water. If you are struggling to reach your goals, try these tips for increasing your water intake.

Supplement your H20 with fruits and vegetables that are high in water content. You’ll get the water benefit plus vitamins and antioxidants in the food. Watermelon and green leafy vegetables are a great place to start.

Keep motivated by creating a list of things that you notice improving. Your energy, skin, weight loss, etc. This will help you understand the benefits of the detox and make it all worthwhile.

If you do decide to try a detox, here are eight other simple, safe and all-natural ways to cleanse your body. Whatever version you choose, drinking plenty of water is a cornerstone. It’s a safe way to keep your body balanced and help flush out all the undesirables and toxins that you don’t want.
